Indoor S'mores to Cure Cabin Fever

Need a break from the drudgery of winter? Shake up your weekend with an afternoon spent indoor camping, complete with decadent homemade marshmallow s’mores.

Just in time for Valentine’s Day (or a snowy weekend), this is a great family activity and could also be a super fun and unique way to spend a romantic night at home.

First we set up our “campsite.” A play tent creates the perfect backdrop and a great place to hang out, tell stories, read and relax. We filled our tent with lots of comfy, cozy blankets and pillows plus a few rustic, camp-inspired items.  Then it was time to add the “campfire.” This adorable electric s’mores maker toasted our marshmallows perfectly at the touch of a button.

Of course, no campsite is complete without s’mores'. Since we were in the house, with access to a full kitchen, we upped our game with homemade fruit-flavored marshmallows and a variety of decadent gourmet toppings. These incredible combinations will definitely leave you wanting s’more.

First up, the Strawberry Nutella S’more. Oh my goodness, my daughter went wild for this one! We started by toasting my homemade strawberry marshmallows (recipe available via Homemaker’s Habitat). Next we smeared a dollop of chocolate hazelnut spread onto the graham crackers. Finally, after adding the gooey strawberry marshmallow we topped things off with a few juicy slices of fresh strawberry. My daughter was in love at first bite!

Finally, my favorite: the Chocolate, Banana, Caramel S’more. Start by roasting homemade banana marshmallows until they are golden and toasty. Try not to devour them right off the stick — they taste just like banana cream pie! But they are even more incredible sandwiched on a graham cracker with a Ghirardelli Milk Chocolate and Caramel Square.

These treats will definitely leave you feeling like a happy camper!
