Authentic Belgian Waffles with Fresh Whipped Cream

Nothing says a breakfast brunch like Belgian Waffles, but most people do not make them correctly.

Believe it or not, Belgian Waffles are made with yeast, not baking soda. They are so much fluffier and delicious that these will literally be the best waffle you’ve ever had, well, at least I’d like to think so! They are super easy to make, but do require a bit of down time to let the batter rest before cooking in your waffle iron, but I promise it’s worth it. If you are a really good planner, then you can actually make the batter a day ahead so come morning it is all cooking. These Belgian Waffles are a must try and be sure to load them up with fresh berries! Enjoy!

  • ½ cup melted unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 eggs
  • 3 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons active yeast
  • Non-stick spray
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • Maple syrup and assorted fresh berries for garnish

  1. In a large bowl whisk together the milk, butter, salt, vanilla, eggs, flour and yeast until completely combined. Cover with plastic wrap and let sit for 20 minutes or until it starts to bubble.
  2. Heat the waffle iron until it’s hot and ready.
  3. Next, spray the iron with the non-stick spray and add in 4-6 ounces of the waffle batter and cook until golden brown and cooked through out. Repeat the process until the batter is gone.
  4. In a separate large bowl whisk the heavy whipping cream until stiff peaks are formed.
  5. To plate: Serve the waffles with the fresh whipped cream, maple syrup and fresh assorted berries.
